Out with the Old, In with the New Year

I can’t believe another year has come and gone! (Seriously, how is it already 2019??) This past year was definitely one to remember. It was a year of many ups and downs, lots of self-reflection, personal growth, and big changes.  One of the biggest changes was my decision to launch Moxie Mamas Fitness once my previous commitment had ended. As many of you know, my own children no longer attend class with me during the school year and even though I would always tell moms “you don’t have to bring your kids with you to reap the benefits of the class and community”, our name would deter people. I wanted to find a way to enhance the experience for current members that still have little ones coming with them, while also helping the moms that are growing out of that phase feel like this was still their home, their community, their tribe.

Coming up with a name for this new venture was no easy task. Myself and my amazing team of instructors racked their brains for months. Lots of hits and misses, and after what felt like an eternity, I finally listened to my gut and went with a name I had jotted down at the very beginning of my planning stage. Moxie Mamas just sounded fun...it was spunky and had word alliteration (if you know me, you know I’m a nerd), but more importantly, the definition is what struck me

“A force of character, determination, or nerve”.  

Ladies, that IS US! We are the backbone of our family, we love our family fiercely, we protect them, and we ARE STRONG. WE are the force to be reckoned with. But sometimes along our journey, between finding our new identities & balance between our goals and our family’s, we lose sight of that.

This business isn’t about me. It's about YOU ALL, the members. What do I mean by that? Every workout is different and uniquely written with you in mind - the woman that needs energy, support, and to feel strong and capable. Every event is so we have something to do for ourselves in addition to events with kiddos. Every challenge is created to help bring you one step closer to your goals and keep you accountable year round. Every decision I make is based on the needs of the Moxie Mamas community. Each and every one of you brings something unique to this community and we are better because of it. Before motherhood, we were someone else. That person still matters and I want you to feel like you can share that person with us.

Today there are so many choices: big box gyms which may not give you accountability; boutique style studios catering to the latest fitness trends that may be pricey and not support your mom schedule; boot camps in every park that may not be the most knowledgeable when it comes to a mother’s body; and endless online fitness & motherhood communities where it’s easy to get lost.  I envision Moxie Mamas Fitness to be the answer to all of these. I want Moxie Mamas Fitness to be your one stop while still offering a face to face, real-time connection. My goal always has been and will be to help moms feel stronger physically, mentally, and emotionally. My goal is to help us find the moxie within ourselves.

I won’t lie and say this transition has been completely smooth and easy. In fact, it’s taken its toll on my own health goals (hello time spent staring at a computer, not moving, while snacking mindlessly...oops). Even writing about my feelings is way out of my comfort zone, but I want you to know that I am in this journey with you.  I have learned a lot about myself and about owning a business and I will continue to do so. However, I couldn’t imagine my life without the Moxie Mamas community.  Seeing you all grow and accomplish your goals - from stepping out of your own comfort zone to join a class, ditching the 10 year cereal for breakfast habit for a healthy smoothie, going from 2 burpees to 20 in a minute - IS my passion and my purpose. I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey towards a healthier life and for joining me in this new adventure. I can’t wait to crush 2019 with you all!
